The book should be composed in easy-to-understand action words to acknowledge and honor the adopted youngster from the very first moment of birth, if possible, to the first moment with adoptive parents and beyond, for as long as the youngster and parents choose to continue documenting "child-friendly" events with written accounts, photos, drawings, and memorabilia.

The LifeBooks concept serves to clarify the youngster's history, to unite the child with the new family, to foster stability, and to create the all-important sense of belonging and feeling loved by family. Creating a Treasure for the Adopted Child answers the question, "What happened?" and helps to piece together the truth, which frees the child of possible feelings of guilt and blame for the "separation," enhances the youngster's self-esteem, and helps to create an environment for comfortable discussions about the adoption that can continue throughout his or her lifetime, if and when discussion is desired; yet the child can be free to grow and learn and achieve and succeed and love life with a sense of security and peace.
