Change Your Life with Martial Arts Afterword

Change Your Life with Martial Arts -- Your indispensable introduction to the martial arts. The Afterword was written by Jerry L. Beasley, EdD.

I had just finished reading the new book, Change Your Life with Martial Arts, by Linda Davis Kyle when my phone rang. Having decided to take up martial arts instruction, the caller had visited a local school where the instructor reportedly was an eighth dan, a three-time world champion, and a master of tae kwon do, jeet kune do, and Brazilian jiujitsu. Wow! I thought, Those are some very impressive credentials.

The caller said that he had read about me and felt sure that I would have heard of this master. I had not. This not quite 30-year-old master was too young to have earned the rank of eighth dan, and his so-called world titles had come from local dojo affairs in which a handful of schools had called their tournament the world championship.

Peruse the yellow pages of just about any telephone directory, and in a great many of the martial arts ads you will find references to a grandmaster or a world champion. How can a prospective student of the martial arts make an informed decision about which school to attend? What art should be studied? How much should be charged for instruction? Davis Kyle has done a terrific job of collecting answers to these and other questions often asked by prospective students. In her book she has taken time to review the top texts and to provide a brief analysis of the most popular martial arts systems. This quick-reference guide for both the beginning and advanced martial artist should please parents and students.

Find a good school, and you reap the rewards of improved fitness, increased self-esteem, demonstrated discipline, and if you're diligent you come to recognize a new positive "I can make it happen" outlook on life. As the author states, martial arts really can change your life!

In martial arts, timing means everything. With more than eight million active practitioners in the United States alone and new practitioners beginning martial arts training every day, there is a definite need for a book such as Change Your Life with Martial Arts. The reader is encouraged to read the information provided, choose the preferred art, and start training today! I wish you much success.
